『君の名は。』の英語吹き替え版のセリフで英語学習をしていきます。
今回は、作品冒頭のセリフを扱います。
スクリプト
Mitsuha: Some mornings, I wake up crying without knowing why. That sort of thing happens now and again. Taki: Whatever the dream was I had, I can never remember it. But… Mitsuha: But the only thing that does last when I wake up is a sense of loss which lingers for a long time afterwards. Taki: I’m always searching for something, or someone. Mitsuha: I’ve been consumed by this feeling ever since that day. Taki: The day a star fell. It was almost like… Mitsuha: …like seeing something out of a dream. Nothing more or less… Mitsuha & Taki: …than a breathtaking view.
語彙
単語を確認しましょう。

文法
次に、文法を見ていきましょう。
But the only thing that does last when I wake up is a sense of loss which lingers for a long time afterwards. 「ただ、何かが消えてしまったという感覚だけが、目覚めてからも長く残る。」
関係代名詞の that と which が使われていますね。
文のかたまりを掴んでいきます。
the only thing と先に言ってから、どんな the only thing かというと that does last 「続く」ということです。
lasts と3単現になるところですが、does last と強調の do (does) を使っています。
さらに後ろに when I wake up と続けて、ここまでで大きな主語ですね。
文全体の動詞は is です。
それから、a sense of loss 「喪失感」とまず言います。
どんな a sense of loss かというと、後ろで説明、which lingers for a long time afterwards です。
I’ve been consumed by this feeling ever since that day. 「そういう気持ちにとりつかれたのは、たぶんあの日から。」
have been consumed と現在完了の受け身になっています。
直訳は「消費されている」ですね。あの日からずっとです。
